THERAPY CONTENT

1) Detoxification.

2) Individual & group counseling.

3) Group sharing.

4) Family counseling & sharing.

5) Responsibility installation & motivation by dividing the entire inmates operations for the dwelling of approximately 120 people under one roof into various minuscule sections, and assigning inmates, responsibility of each section by turns every fortnight and assessing their capabilities and shortcomings. This therapy in particular, though no way connected directly to the daily chores of individual inmates in the outside world, it brings forth tangibly the core attitudinal attributes inherent in every inmate, that ultimately manifest in to realistic actions in their day to day life that includes their craving for escapism through addiction.

6) Confrontation: Though a minority indulges in addiction for no rhyme or reason (their only purpose is to get a high) use drugs/alcohol, impulsively as they are unable to negotiate the realities because of their intrinsic qualities that is mainly the characteristics of “ANGER” & “RESENTMENT.” Addicts do not believe in anyone confronting them on any matter whatsoever and they are the “I WANT IT, AND I WANT IT NOW” people.

Confrontation is a healing process where by inmates are trained to exercise control over their thoughts and reactions.

At the center if an inmate does not like a particular aspect/thing/event, he is not allowed to react immediately. He is directed to write a slip and deposit in a box and that is the end of the matter at that instant. This becomes a testing time for the inmate, where he is seething with anger and resentment about the thing he did not like, yet has to live with it without instantly reacting.

The inmates are assembled twice a week for the exclusive purpose of confronting each other under the supervision of experienced counselors, where the inmate is allowed to express his feelings in full throttle. This serves the dual purpose of helping the inmate living with anger and resentment from the time the actual incident happened till venting off his pent up anger and resentment.

In the process it tries to develop the important qualities of “PATIENCE” and “TOLERANCE” simultaneously channelising anger and resentment—two deadly characteristics to be ridden away from any addict slowly but steadily.

7) Vocational Training: We actively encourage inmates to partake in any department that suits their choice like carpentry, plumbing, gardening , house keeping, electrical work etc. so that they not only get the opportunity to hone their initiative and skills but also learn to adjust and live with others as a group. This helps in real life since invariably addictive personalities tend to be lonely and secluded mainly for their convenience of indulging in their chosen addiction without external interference and also their indifference to any external suggestion/ advice that certainly does not suit their convenience.

8) Schizophrenia / Mental retardation: Being a very specialized segment for treatment, such inmates at the center are managed with an exclusive caretaker all the time, and these cases are directly monitored by our Dr. Deshpande and his guidelines from time to time are strictly followed.
